Code 95 – what it confirms and who it applies to
Code 95 is an entry confirming a driver’s professional qualification in the format 95.DD.MM.YYYY. Without it you may not transport goods commercially in the EU, and the digits after the number show the validity date, after which the qualification must be renewed.
It covers primarily categories C and CE, i.e. trucks over 3.5 tonnes, and also bus drivers in categories D and DE. The qualification is renewed every 5 years. In Gdansk and around the Tricity – in Pruszcz Gdański, Tczew, Kowale, Straszyn, as well as Gdynia and Rumia – demand for C+E drivers is driven by port haulage, forwarding and distribution.

You complete the Code 95 training entirely over the internet. Whether you live in Śródmieście, Wrzeszcz, Oliwa, Przymorze or Zaspa, lectures and tests are available from a computer or phone at any time. You do not have to commute to classes, and you can repeat the material as many times as you need.
The programme covers the mandatory professional topics: a driver’s driving and rest time (Regulation 561/2006) and the safe transport and securing of cargo, including containers.
Which course to choose: short or long
The type of course depends on the date you obtained category C.
Drivers who obtained category C, C1, CE or C1+E before 10 September 2009, as well as those renewing an expiring qualification, only need the periodic training – a short course of 35 hours, i.e. five days of lectures with no exam.
Anyone who obtained category C after 10 September 2009 takes the initial qualification – a long course in a full version (280 hours) or an accelerated one (140 hours, available from the age of 21). It ends with a state exam of 30 questions, after which the voivode issues an electronic certificate. The initial qualification is taken only once; later the periodic course is enough. For category D an analogous threshold of 10 September 2008 applies. PKZ and the documents needed for Code 95
The starting point is the PKZ (Professional Driver’s Profile) – a digital profile generated by the transport department, holding the driver’s data, medical and psychological certificates, and completed courses. We fill in the application for you and guide you through the whole procedure.
Registration requires: a valid photo ID document (passport or ID card, with a photocopy), a valid driving licence with the relevant categories (with a photocopy), a medical certificate, a psychological certificate, one colour photo 35 × 45 mm, and a completed application. Medical and psychological tests can be done in Gdansk – we will point you to where to book them.
Qualification certificate and the Driver Qualification Card
After completing the course you receive the Vocational Qualification Certificate, which since 5 April 2022 is issued only electronically and is valid for 5 years.
Drivers whose licence was issued outside the EU, EFTA or Switzerland cannot have Code 95 entered directly into the licence – for them a plastic Code 95 is issued, i.e. the Driver Qualification Card. We arrange it for drivers from Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and any other countries around the world, and we help with changing a foreign driving licence into a Polish one. A driver with a Polish or other EU licence gets Code 95 directly in the licence.
