When a driver needs Code 95 to work in the European Union
Code 95 is an entry confirming a driver’s professional qualification (in the format 95.DD.MM.YYYY), required in every EU country for the commercial transport of goods. Drivers whose licence was not issued in the EU, EFTA or Switzerland receive this qualification as a separate document – the Driver Qualification Card. Without Code 95, commercial transport in the Union is not allowed.
The requirement applies primarily to categories C and CE (trucks over 3.5 tonnes), and also to bus drivers in categories D and DE. The qualification is renewed every 5 years. For residents of Warsaw and the surrounding towns – Pruszków, Piaseczno, Legionowo, Marki or Ząbki – it is a gateway to transport companies, from domestic to international routes.
Long and short Code 95 course: which one to choose
Which Code 95 course you need depends on the date you obtained category C.
The short course (periodic training) lasts 35 hours – five days of lectures with no exam. It is used to renew the qualification every 5 years, and it also applies to drivers who obtained category C, C1, CE or C1+E before 10 September 2009, or category D, D1, DE or D1+E before 10 September 2008.
The long course (initial qualification) is for drivers who obtained category C after 10 September 2009, or D after 10 September 2008. It comes in a full version (280 hours) and an accelerated one (140 hours, available from the age of 21), and ends with a state exam of 30 questions before an examination board; the voivode then issues an electronic certificate. Code 95 training online – without driving across Warsaw
The greatest convenience is that the training runs entirely online. In a metropolis where crossing the city can take hours, remote learning is especially valuable: lectures and tests are available from any district – Śródmieście, Mokotów, Praga-Południe, Ursus or Białołęka – at a time that suits you. You study on a computer or smartphone, with unlimited access to the material, and take the tests at home.
The programme also covers the mandatory professional topics: driving and rest time rules (Regulation 561/2006) and the safe transport of cargo. Because the theory does not take place in a classroom, even the busiest drivers can complete the course.

The PKZ profile and required documents
The starting point is setting up the PKZ (Profil Kierowcy Zawodowego, Professional Driver’s Profile) – a digital driver profile generated by the transport department, which stores personal data, medical and psychological certificates, and the history of completed courses. We take the paperwork on ourselves – we fill in the application for the driver and guide you through the whole process.
The documents needed for registration are: a valid ID document with a photo (passport or with a photocopy), a valid driving licence with the relevant categories (with a photocopy), a medical certificate, a psychological certificate, one colour photo 35 × 45 mm, and a completed application. Vocational qualification certificate and the plastic Code 95
After the course you receive a Vocational Qualification Certificate (Świadectwo Kwalifikacji Zawodowej): since 5 April 2022 it exists only in electronic form and is valid for 5 years.
If your driving licence was issued outside the EU, EFTA or Switzerland, Code 95 cannot be entered directly into the licence – in that case a plastic Code 95 is issued, i.e. the Driver Qualification Card. We arrange it for drivers from Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and any other countries around the world, and we help with changing a foreign driving licence into a Polish one. Drivers with a Polish or other EU licence get Code 95 directly in the licence.
